Through years of working with timber comes an appreciation for its structural and aesthetic qualities. The way it can be sculpted & shaped, its attractive grain and innate timelessness. It’s an enduring material that we enjoy working with – every day.

Our current timber offering includes American Ash and American Oak, both of which are functional, enduring and sustainable choices; bringing a natural beauty to our designs. Light coloured in its raw state, Ash typically has a wide grain pattern, without any fleck. Oak has a richer colour, and tight linear grain with a distinctive small fleck. Ash lends itself well to staining, while Oak is an appealing option for lighter finishes, highlighting its attractive grain.

We have carefully chosen to partner with two suppliers; both family-owned and located on America’s East Coast in the Appalachian Mountains. Here, the climate supports an ever-shifting combination of hardwood species. Responsible forest management and practices, such as selective harvesting, ensure long-term forest health. In turn, the United States is building resilient and naturally regenerating forests, to the point where more American Oak is currently being grown than harvested each year.

Sourcing our timber from America assures us a reliable supply of quality timber that we couldn’t replicate elsewhere. We maintain a close relationship with our suppliers, experts in the world of lumber, gathering valuable knowledge around working with timber.

A living material that continues to season over time, each piece of A-Grade lumber arrives at our factory kiln dried and rough sawn. Only working with A-Grade lumber offers a refined and timeless appearance, reduces raw material waste and promises furniture that can withstand years of wear.

Our artisans hand-select and quality check every piece of timber during each phase of production. Whether it’s optimising random widths of lumber, measuring moisture content, matching colour and grain, dressing or staining, our team are consistently aiming to highlight a connection between material and finished product. It’s about being true to the materials we work with, honouring their origin, and giving meaning to their tactility and texture. Because after all, it’s the materials that are the backbone to our design and craft.
